 Winter 2011 - "Multiples Moving Forward: Within Our Families"

Last year, we focused on the history of our organization through the "Golden Memories Of" series. This year, the Education Department decided to focus on the future with "Multiples Moving Forward." Our winter issue focuses on the family. Come share the journey with us as you discover that you are not alone when raising multiples!

Every family should share moments together. Why not try a family game night? Feature Writer Becky Seacrest interviewed several families who shared their best memories of moments spent together. Some are just now creating those special moments with their families. These are the times we all learn the most about our kids and ourselves, and these are the moments that we teach our children how to be great parents like us in the future.

Spanish Liaison Beth Thome knows all about being a stressed mother of multiples. She encourages us all to take care of ourselves. Do you have any Spanish-speaking members in your club? Beth has shared the article in Spanish for us as well!

District Reporter Kelly Heslip learned there are some amazing women in our organization that have multiples that arrived in their families in a little different way than most. From fertility treatments, to adoption, to surrogacy, these children are all beautiful and their parents are amazing, considering what they have all been through. You will enjoy reading the articles, but the photos will really get your attention! Those girls are so adorable!

So the teens are discussing their college choices and what careers they want to pursue. How do you fund it all? Check out District Reporter Gina Mensay's article on Funding a Double Education. Did you know that the NOMOTC website has some great tips too? See Gina's article for more information!

There are many children out there that are in the military. Did you know that many of them follow in the footsteps of their fathers, uncles, grandfathers? Feature Writer Melissa Miller shares some wonderful stories from these families. You will be so proud of all these wonderful multiples that give because that's what they were taught by their parents.

Do you have a child with ADHD or other similar disability? Special Needs Coordinator Joann Bullock relates well to this with her article "Riding the ADHD Medication Rollercoaster." Fasten your seatbelts; she says it will be a bumpy ride!

Was one of your club members honored as a Member of the Year at the 50^th annual convention held in Toledo, OH, last August? If so, see if you can find her name in the list of all of our wonderful honorees!

What if your husband was transferred to another city for his job? It would be really difficult on your family to pick up and move. But what if he was transferred to another city...in another country? What if you only spoke the language minimally? How do you cope with such a dramatic change? How different is your life in another country compared to your life in the United States? Former Education Vice President and member Jennifer Herrold shares her first year in France, and all the exciting new things she and her two sets of multiples have had to learn. It has been an adventure for sure!

Resource Publication Coordinator Debbie Ciardi reviews two books designed for your multiples. One is written for boys, and one is perfect for girls, but both are perfect for all multiples of all ages. Check out her reviews, and please do not hesitate to share some ideas of great books for younger multiples that you have seen with her!

The winter has been a rough one with all the snow and treacherous weather across the country. If you are stuck inside, this will be a great issue to keep you company.
